Blast from the past - Navaratri (1966)

'Navaratri' (1966) combined the story telling skills of filmmaker Tatineni Rama Rao and the performances of all-time greats Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri. Even today when you talk of Kamal Hassan’s 'Dasavatharam', in which he played ten roles, you cannot but recall 'Navaratri'. None who knows Telugu cinema can forget the great actor playing nine very different roles in the film. Every character essayed a rasa (emotion) and the navarasas were embellished to the optimum in ANR's portrayals. The thespian’s imaginative approach to his roles was remarkable. Even now he’s an inspiration to aspiring actors. But where did he find his inspiration?
Remembered for: At a time when playing even three roles in a film was a wonder, you saw an actor handling nine with élan! And each was so different from the other that you almost forgot it was the same man playing all the parts.

The Producer

Everyone felt that time (1965) 'Sumangali' was Savitri's last film with ANR, becasue she gained over weight. But after that film, Savitri done another film 'Navaratri' with him, hence it was not a romantic film, but a performance oriented film. So that she accepted it. And also she was the co-producer of it. For the first time she produce this film under the banner of Vijaya Chamundeswari Combines. And she sung a song in it.
