Savitri remade the film 'Chinnari Papalu' into Tamil under the banner of Sri Savitri Productions as 'Kuzhandai Ullam' (1969) with Gemini Ganesan as lead actor. Savitri and Vanisri played the female leads. This was also a flop as the Telugu version. The Director
Savitri's first film as a director was 'Chinnari Papalu'. She took the muhurat shot of the film on 12th October, 1967 in Vahini Studios (Madras). She took care everything about the film like shopping for the heroine's costumes. Even she behaved like a producer of it. Because there were 14 share holders in that production company, Sri Matha Films. Their money was short to complete the movie. They took some financiers. So Savitri kept all the film's works on her shoulders before release of it, and put an uncountable amout. The film released in 1968 and collected Rs. 25 of each Rs. 100 only. Anyway it got Silver Nandi as Best Second Film.

Blast from the past - Navaratri (1966)
'Navaratri' (1966) combined the story telling skills of filmmaker Tatineni Rama Rao and the performances of all-time greats Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri. Even today when you talk of Kamal Hassan’s 'Dasavatharam', in which he played ten roles, you cannot but recall 'Navaratri'. None who knows Telugu cinema can forget the great actor playing nine very different roles in the film. Every character essayed a rasa (emotion) and the navarasas were embellished to the optimum in ANR's portrayals. The thespian’s imaginative approach to his roles was remarkable. Even now he’s an inspiration to aspiring actors. But where did he find his inspiration?
Remembered for: At a time when playing even three roles in a film was a wonder, you saw an actor handling nine with élan! And each was so different from the other that you almost forgot it was the same man playing all the parts.

The Producer
Everyone felt that time (1965) 'Sumangali' was Savitri's last film with ANR, becasue she gained over weight. But after that film, Savitri done another film 'Navaratri' with him, hence it was not a romantic film, but a performance oriented film. So that she accepted it. And also she was the co-producer of it. For the first time she produce this film under the banner of Vijaya Chamundeswari Combines. And she sung a song in it.
